The Medical Services Officer (MSO) serves as the medical department on-board ship and works independently under a physician’s license. As the department head and sole care provider, the MSO provides medical care equivalent to a Navy Independent Duty Hospital Corpsman (IDC) in occupational and non-occupational medical treatment, maintains the SAMS database, performs shipboard emergency medical care, including CPR and use of automated external defibrillator, manages occupational health & safety and preventive medicine programs, provides preventive health education and CPR training. This is the ideal position for Independent Duty Corpsman or licensed registered nurses or licensed physician assistants with seagoing experience.
