Military Sealift Command’s Culinary department, along with the Logistics department is part of the larger Supply department. Members of the Culinary department are responsible for the daily provisions of food and supplies, for cooking, baking, and food preparation. Duties and responsibilities may include progressive cooking techniques, menu development, healthy recipe development/preparation, preparing entrees utilizing the Armed Forces Recipe Service and local recipes and instructions. All positions in the Culinary Department are civil service mariners (CIVMARs) employed by the Navy to serve the Military Sealift Command (MSC) onboard naval auxiliaries and hybrid-manned warships worldwide, in peace and war. MSC exists to support the joint warfighter across the full spectrum of military operations. MSC provides on-time logistics, strategic sealift, as well as specialized missions anywhere in the world, in contested or uncontested environments.
